Welcome Awards Sponsors! Our ultimate goal as a Science Department is to motivate students to find a topic that interests them enough that they decide to pursue a career related to that topic! As such, we are constantly in search of other means besides grades to motivate our pre-teen and teenage participants. This age is SO VERY IMPORTANT with respect to the shaping of their interests and future-decision making that we look to those outside of WCA (like YOU!) to partner with us in this motivational endeavor -- to help us put students on the path of discovery and let THEM see to where that path can ultimately lead!
But, let's be realistic, nothing speaks louder to our young modern generation than special incentives and monetary awards!! With that in mind, we would like to offer YOU or YOUR COMPANY the opportunity to motivate students in the direction of your field of study through the implementation of such incentives and awards. You can call it blackmail! You can call it coercion! You can call it what you like; but, no matter the term, you/your company will have invitingly opened a door into YOUR field of interest for a young Christian mind with unlimited potential and NO PRE-CONCEIVED IDEAS about "the conventional wisdom" in that field . . . who knows where such a SIMPLE opened door can lead that mind!!! What an awesome impact on the future of YOUR profession your contribution can be!!
The criteria for each award/incentive is COMPLETELY up to you to define (please see below for those awards already available). Some specific criteria you may want to consider are Fair Division (we have Junior High and Senior High),
Fair Category(ies), Particular Applications within a Category, or any other criteria you would like to set -- your specific criteria MUST be submitted along with your proposed award so that we can publish the listing on thist website BELOW and in hardcopy to the students when they are in the process of choosing a project topic.
As the fair date approaches, you and/or your company will be provided a list of projects that fit your specified award criteria so that you may provide a judge/judges for those projects on the day of the Fair. The award will be presented by you or a designated representative of your company on the day of our Awards Ceremony -- with company recognition noted in the official program for the Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, January 20th.
If you feel called to provide these special incentives and/or monetary awards, we have provided
a signed letter of request for you to bring to your supervisor and/or human resources representative. You are also encouraged to contact our
Fair Director if you have any further questions regarding this matter -- it is CERTAINLY one that is NEAR AND DEAR to our hearts as a Science Department Faculty!
