Westminster Christian Academy - Science and Mathematics Fair
About Us
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.  God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’"      Genesis 1:27-28

In the book of Genesis, we are given a mandate by our creator to subdue the earth and rule over it.  Without a complete understanding of His earth and all of its intricate wonders, we cannot hope to fulfill such an awesome responsibility.  As a Science Department, we see the inquiry-based scientific education of a student as our Christian duty in the fulfillment of this significant charge – for it is through such knowledge that we gain the wisdom necessary to become discerning leaders over all aspects of His glorious creation.

“Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people”
2 Chronicles 1:10

About The Fair
The Science Department’s implementation of a science fair was done in and for the best interest of the students. It was certainly not a decision made lightly as the overall evaluation of all of the projects at each step along the development path is placed squarely on the shoulders of each of our science classroom teachers. However, it has been of great inspiration to watch so many of the participants begin to fulfill our vision and, now, hopefully, our goal in the implementation of the Westminster Christian Academy Science & Mathematics Fair.

On an individual level, our vision is to encourage student growth in the following areas:
•  Taking an open and creative approach to problem solving.
Developing an understanding of the scientific method and its use of controls and
       variables .
Sharpening of writing and communication skills .
Gaining skills in library use and valid information acquisition .
   Developing time management skills.
Developing poise, public speaking skills and “thinking on their feet” as they
present their projects to peers and to the queries of judges.
Competing in an environment where students are recognized for academic
       achievement and innovation.

On a more advanced level, our goal is to:
• Motivate and stimulate the interests of all students in the fields of science, mathematics, technology, and engineering.
• Provide an extraordinary educational experience for students.
• Recognize outstanding effort and scientific achievement.
• Make all students aware of the many opportunities in science and related fields.
• Involve the corporate community in recognizing outstanding students in technological and scientific fields of study.
• Create local, area and state-wide awareness of the outstanding achievements of students at Westminster Christian Academy.

Past Winners
Although only instituted during the 2007-08 Academic Year, the WCA Science and Mathematics Fair has already produced some outstanding student performances -- and to God be the Glory for each of their successes!  Please click HERE to view listings of all our student's accomplishments over the past few years!
